Can i improve my credit score if i don't have a credit card?

I have a debt of 897.00 on my credit score that has been paid already, I need to build my credit to buy a car my credit score is 550 and I'm not planning on getting a credit card to build my credit. How can I build my credit?

    Borrow $500 from a bank and place it in a CD at the same location.
    The bank knows they will get repaid because they already have the $500 on deposit.
    Repay by cashing the CD.
    Instant credit.

    Pay your bills on time. That's about all I can think of.

    you should get a credit card and use it a little,,but pay the money back every month..that will improve your score..and you can open a checking account that too will improve your score
