I have a very low credit score with old delinquent accounts. I have heard paying off old accounts is pointless, and will not improve your score. Is there any way to fix credit on your own with out the use of a lawyer etc.
I heard once that getting a credit card and making payments faithfully from month to month improves credit. Is this true, and if so, how can I go about doing this?
This is very important so please give me a straight answer. None of that "the best way to not get bad credit is to avoid it" junk. I know that but it's not going to help if I already have bad credit. So please tell me if there's any way to fix bad credit. Please. Please. Please 
I had a Wells Fargo overdraft fees that a collection agency called me for but I had no idea this could ruin my credit because I never owned a credit card. So I paid the debt a day after the collection agency called me but now I am worried I have terrible credit because I no longer get these free pre-approved credit card offers.So is there a quick way I can re-build my bad credit ?

I have bad credit…I had two accounts each were under 100 and they went to collections…I was stupid when i got my first credit card a few years ago…Now my credit score is a 550…How can i fix it? My collections accounts are closed out and now im just looking to repair. I am married and my husband has great credit…Can he help me inprove it by adding my name to a loan or anything? OK, i looked up my credit report and i have about 4 "bad"things totalling around $1000. **all are hospital bills that i dispute**
and 9 good accounts, my student loan debt **there are 9 that show up and all but one is paid off-none of them have EVER been late**
so why is my credit bad!? i couldnt get a credit card if i had too. not that i really want one. i just want to know how to increase my credit score?!?!?!
